The JCT team opened up an early 2-0 lead against Alexander college in the Semi Final of the JCT Cup at St Gerard’s this afternoon. It is amazing how momentum can change as fast as the wind. Within 10 minutes Gerard’s were cruising with two great goals and total domination.Alex however had other thoughts and were soon back in the game with a goal by Zikka O Donoghue (daughter of Shirley O Reilly who ran Montessori In St Gerard’s up to 15 years ago).

By half time it was 2-2 with Alex piling on the pressure.St Gerard’s came out fighting in the second half but neither side could break the deadlock. Alex on balance had more chances but some magnificent goal keeping by St Gerard’s ensured that extra time was looming. However Alex got a short corner just as the umpire was blowing his final whistle. On the second take, Alex seized the opportunity and won 3-2 .

The home crowd were well and truly silenced as both teams started to shake hands. A bruising game where both teams gave 100 pct ended in inequality. Alex are now into the final of both the League and the Cup. Hopefully St Gerard’s will get a chance of revenge as they still hold a semi final of the league match.

Hockey is on the up and up…Great effort GIRLS…..keep up the intensity….
